Until recently, the only textbooks on the astrology of India available to Western students were clearly designed for use in a traditional Indian cultural setting. Powerful as the techniques taught in these texts may be, they were not always appropriate for use in a Western cultural setting.
Now several texts have been written by Western students who have studied in India. Among the best of these is this text by Ronnie Gale Dreyer. Vedic Astrology is a major bridge between the astrological heritage of India and the cultural needs of the West. Her work enables any thoughtful reader with a basic knowledge of Western astrology to encounter the Indian tradition, the power of its methods, and the richness of its thought.
And while no one text can completely encompass the elaborate astrological traditions of India, this text gives the student a solid foundation in those traditions and makes it possible to go on to the study of the original astrological classics of India. As such, this text is one of the best, and perhaps the best text of its kind in print.
— Rob Hand, author of Planets in Transit
Vedic, or Jyotish astrology, has its roots in Indian and Hindu culture, making it markedly different from its Western counterparts. The author of this book explains how it can be used, and how it shouldn't be used, in this introduction. Complete instructions, easy to understand.
